After a fun and restful Thanksgiving break, this week was all about preparing my film for my end-of-semester faculty review. That meant making all the desired changes to the cut, which has come a long way since the beginning of the semester.
I also worked on lighting and rendering a new shot this week. I didn't have any nighttime/haunted scenes rendered before, so this was a chance to develop that aesthetic and show the faculty what I was up to.
Part of the process of getting this shot done was rendering a sky plate, which I did with some purchased VDB volumes:
I also spent some time in Nuke this week figuring out workflows for some more complex situations where I wanted environment fog/god rays, but also wanted a clear view of the moon out of the window. I got much more familiar with nuke over this process and was proud of the little node tree I ended up with:
